The Bears even used the same formation to get Hicks in the end zone.

The Chicago Bears are without QB Mitchell Trubisky for a second consecutive week, and are therefore getting creative on offense. Or at least, they’re looking towards the past.

In the second quarter against the Giants, Chase Daniel handed the ball off to the 6’5, 332-pound Hicks for the heavy score:

Big guy touchdowns are always awesome, but with the Bears it means a little more because of their history.

We’re of course referencing William “Refrigerator” Perry, who had a pair of rushing touchdowns for the legendary 1985 Bears. His first came on October 21 of that year, making him the first player over 300 pounds to score a touchdown:

The second came in Super Bowl XX against the Patriots:

Hicks is the first Bears defensive player to score a rushing touchdown since Perry, and just the fourth in NFL history, joining B.J. Raji and Dontari Poe. The Bears even ran the play in the same formation, truly paying homage to Perry.

Hopefully we won’t have to wait another 33 years for the next one, though.
