The Buckeyes look horrible against a Big Ten team they were supposed to beat easily, again.
Ohio State’s Playoff hopes are hanging in the balance at Maryland. The No. 10 Buckeyes were losing at halftime at Maryland on Saturday, 24-17, and continued to struggle into the third quarter. We’ll keep this post updated with new scores as the game rolls on.

The current score: Maryland 31, Ohio State 31 (fourth quarter)
Ohio State finally tied the score after trailing since the first minute.
Earlier ...
- Ohio State mounted an eight-play, 73-yard scoring drive to cut its deficit from two touchdowns to one. Dwayne Haskins scored from 2 yards out to cap it.
- RaVon Davis intercepted Haskins and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown in the first minute of the second half, extending Maryland’s lead to two touchdowns.

The start of the game was incomprehensibly ugly for Ohio State.
The Buckeyes gave up two 75-yard-plus touchdown runs to Maryland’s Anthony McFarlandin the first six minutes. The first was a total breakdown:

And the second sort of was, too, though a missed tackle catalyzed the play:

Somehow, things could’ve been even worse. Maryland fumbled one drive away immediately after recovering a pooch kick deep inside Ohio State territory. And on other drive, the Terps settled for a field goal when Maryland QB Tyrrell Pigrome overthrew receiver Jeshaun Jones in the end zone after the cornerback covering Jones slipped and fell down. (Pigrome’s Maryland’s backup, making his first start of the year after starter Kasim HIll tore his ACL.)
Things got somewhat better in the second quarter, but Ohio State still squandered a chance to tie the game late in the period.
Two fumbles played a role in that. Ohio State didn’t recover this one by Maryland ...

After trailing 17-3 and then 24-10, the Buckeyes were a few yards from going to the break tied at 24, with the ball coming their way after halftime. But they didn’t.
The Buckeyes getting blown out by Maryland (or just losing to Maryland by a close margin) would be surprising.
But only to a point, given that Ohio State’s already had the brakes blown off it in the last year and change by the likes of Purdue and Iowa. The same result in College Park would just continue an odd trend.
Ohio State was a 14-point favorite or so.
